StickerApp: Hi Liz, we're thrilled to have you as our February Artist of the Month! First off: how would you define your style?

Liz: Colourful & comforting - I like to create visual reminders to encourage self-care. It can be humorous at times and deal with some difficult topics through the use of everyday objects, puns, and wordplay.

StickerApp: What’s your favorite technique?

Liz: I love sketching with pencil, paper, and ink - when I started I didn’t have funds for an iPad, so I created off-computer. It’s a longer process, but I love all the happy accidents I have and just got used to working that way.

StickerApp: Who or what is your biggest inspiration/s?

Liz: City living is a massive inspiration for me, however, I don’t get out as much as I like to find its everyday items to inform my concepts. I love vintage packaging and good food so both find their way into my work a lot.

StickerApp: How did it all start?

Liz: I’ve always known I wanted to make a living from my creativity and started young finding ways to earn pocket money sewing accessories and drawing custom portraits for kids in high school. Graphic design felt like a good route so I studied and took on freelance work once I’d left uni. I worked as a graphic designer for years and started illustration whilst on maternity leave. It was a hobby and passion that grew accidentally, and organically, as I shared my work on Instagram.

StickerApp: Do you have a tip for those starting out?

Liz: Share your work and build a community - don’t be afraid to illustrate niche topics you’re passionate about ‘cause that’s exactly how you’ll find your people. Don’t close yourself off and if you feel uncomfortable with the challenge of something lean into that, cause that means there’s a lotta potential growth there!

StickerApp: Favorite app or program?

Liz: Adobe Illustrator! I love Photoshop too but the nature of my work means all my illos are finalised in Illustrator - and I create lettering mainly, which it's perfect for. Insta is my favourite SoMe platform, but I’d love to create more video content this year and hope to build more of a following on YouTube.

StickerApp: Why do you use StickerApp?

Artist: The website is so straightforward. The preview function when uploading your art is easy to work with to create these brilliant sticker finishes!

StickerApp: What's your favorite material, and why?

Artist: I’m torn between glitter or holographic because I’m a maximalist at heart - the more colour and glitter the better!

StickerApp: How do you use stickers for your own business/personal brand?

Artist: I have an online shop and my stickers make up a huge chunk of my sales - they’re one of the quickest ways to convert my illustrations into a saleable product, so if there’s something topical I wanna respond to I can have it ready for sale super quick. I also use them for promo, handing the odd ones out at events AND adding one in every shop order - I mean who doesn’t like a sticker?!
